During the 2017-2018 season, Boban Marjanovic played sparingly, averaging only 8.7 minutes per game, behind DeAndre Jordan and Montrezel Harrell. Compared to his previous season with the Pistons (his 2nd season in the NBA), Marjanovic’s field goal percentages were a litlle bit downdown but also improved when he moved to Clippers.
However, when Boban did play formidable minutes (like few last games in season), he averaged almost a double-double. If we extrapolated those numbers over the season he would be a top ten scoring center with massive upside
On the offensive side of the ball, the 29-year-old Marjanovic is a low post monster with incredible touch that cannot be stopped once he gains position.
First, Boban’s per 36 scoring and rebounding stats increased compared to his first and second year in the NBA. Second, his free throw percentage increased all the way up to 81%, which, for comparison, is drastically better than Jordan’s 58.0%. Lastly, and maybe most importantly, Boban’s defensive rating in San Antonio and Detroit was around 96 (he played twice as much!) and it ballooned all-the-way-up to 106 with the Clippers. This is important because when Boban is surrounded by enough help and/or a better defensive scheme, he is able to protect the paint and rim. If Boban is able to regain his defensive rating of 96 while playing formidable minutes, he would be a top tier defensive center as well
Center Boban Marjanovic was an afterthought in this season’s Blake Griffin blockbuster, with the analysis of that deal mostly focusing on the other pieces the Clippers received — Tobias Harris, Avery Bradley, and a first-round pick. However, Marjanovic has been proving his value to the Clippers as of late, writes Elliott Teaford of The Daily Breeze. Boban has one more year left on his deal after this season and will earn $7MM in 2018/19.
